As the weather begins to turn a bit colder, I start dreaming of delicious hot beverages. The days are growing shorter and I pulled out my favorite cozy hoody today. I even wore socks! So yeah, a hot cup to warm my hands sounds so nice right now… Here is how to make chai…
I wake up several hours before my family to get some pre-hustle “me” time. Unless I decide to sleep instead but that’s a different story. I find that the precious hours before the entire house wakes up keep me sane throughout the week. It’s important what I do with these hours too because scrolling ain’t gonna give me the nourishment that I need. In fact, I don’t even turn on my phone until my quiet time is over and I am shifting into go mode.
What do I do with these few precious hours each day? I sit quietly. I contemplate my relationships. I listen to the silence. I watch the stars disappear one by one. I listen to the birds sweetly waking up the world. I do my yoga and energy body hygiene practices. I pray and meditate. And… I sip a warm delightfully frothy beverage, after I have had my lemon water and my shot of ACV.
My favorite froth right now is: cacao rooibos chai with fresh almond milk blended with dates. I think I’ll call it “Almond Cachai” I like the sound of that, the way it rolls nicely off the tongue.
How to make chai – Ingredients:
Fresh almond milk – I like mine very creamy so I do 1/3-1/2 part milk to 1/2-2/3 part hot water. To make the milk: soak 1 cup of raw organic almonds overnight, blend with 40 oz filtered water and a pinch of salt, strain with a cheesecloth or cotton nut milk bag.
Organic Dates – After I make the milk I put the amount I want for my tea back into the blender with 4 dates and blend until smooth, about one minute. You can totally add dates into the entire almond milk batch. I prefer to keep it neutral so that I can use it for sweet or savory recipes.
Cacao Alchemy from Healthforce Superfoods – 1 tsp. – This blend is an adaptogen which “helps the body, mind, and Spirit’s ability to cope with occasional stress and fatigue thus promoting general vitality and well-being.” https://healthforce.com/products/cacao-alchemy-adaptogen-tonic
Rooibos Masala Chai by Blue Lotus Chai – a heaping scoop (included in the tin) – Of course you can choose one of their caffeinated chai options as well. I don’t use caffeine regularly, so I like this option personally. https://bluelotuschai.com/products/rooibos-masala-chai
And that is how to make chai!
